Dunescape — a living desert that follows the real sun and moon.
The dunes are lit by the actual sun for your location. One face catches the light and the other falls into shadow, and through the day the shadows swing round and lengthen as the sun drops. Sunrise and sunset wash the sand in warm colour for a good three hours at each end of the day.
After dark the moon takes over. It rises, sets and shows its phase in the right part of the sky, so crescents keep company with the sun near dawn and dusk while a full moon rises as the sun sets. A full moon is bright enough to throw the dunes into relief; a thin crescent leaves the desert nearly black. Some nights the moon isn't up at all, and those are the darkest. Behind it all is a sky of stars with the Milky Way crowded into a band low over the dunes, the faint ones washed out when the moon is bright.
The clock is set in a heavy condensed face, sized for your watch, over a soft darkening of the sky that keeps it readable against a bright midday horizon.

Sand colour: Sahara gold, Namib red, gypsum white or Atacama stone.
Wind speed: How fast the dunes drift and reshape, from Calm to Haboob, named after real desert winds.
Location: From GPS, from a list of twenty-seven of the world's great sand seas, or by typing coordinates. Set a longitude far from home and you can watch the sky of somewhere else.
Blue tint: Pebble Time 2 only. That watch's screen is bluer than the original Pebble Time's; this warms the scene back to match.
At below 20% battery the scene flattens to solid colours, which both saves power and tells you at a glance. A small circle on the dunes shows a lost Bluetooth connection.
